History

Michael P. Matthews practices in the areas of litigation, construction law, and insurance defense. He has represented clients in Colorado and a number of other states in both state and federal court. Mr. Matthews has litigated a wide variety of matters, including disputes involving claims of negligence, product liability, fraud, wrongful death, premises liability, wrongful discharge, sexual harassment, breach of contract, deceptive trade practices, and trademark infringement.

 

Mr. Matthews' experience includes the management of hundreds of product liability lawsuits on behalf of a former asbestos manufacturer. He has also represented airlines involved in wrongful death and personal injury litigation resulting from airline crashes. In providing such representation, he gained expertise in assessing damages issues and conducting discovery regarding the same. He co-authored an articled entitled "Calculating Net Pecuniary Loss Under Colorado Wrongful Death Law". The article sets forth a formula for calculating the economic loss suffered by plaintiffs in Colorado wrongful death lawsuits.

 

Mr. Matthews also represents clients in the construction industry. He has litigated a variety of construction disputes involving issues related to the formation and termination of construction contracts as well as contractor and subcontractor liability. Mr. Matthews has advised clients regarding the calculation of construction damages, including claims for delay, acceleration, and extended overhead damages and has represented clients in a wide array of mechanic's lien and bond claims.

 

Mr. Matthews received his Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma Christian College and Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. He is a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations.
